Being that Terry G is a very lucrative entertainer , i am always in the studio to record everything that he does , from voicing and collaborating with other Acts . We in the studio almost everyday, Terry's work force is enormous and being the creative mind he is . We record almost everyday. You can have Terry in any session and he would not even come with a Pen or Notepad to write down his lyrics. He would just listen to the beat and voice just immediately in one take . I Mixed & Mastered the entire Terry G projects , from his first album to present. Which brings to the opportunity i have had learning , recording other acts projects including the young and upcoming acts.
Worked with the likes of House Of Ginjah,9ice,Eedris abdul kareem,Vector,Naeto C,Jaywon, Awilo logonba,Kennis Saint Brown,Harry Song, late Dagrin,YQ,Tonto Dike,Timaya,Olu Maintain,MumaGee,Lkt,Ozzy ,and various upcoming artistes
iPn: Could you define the ''Art Of Mixing & Mastering?
In sound engineering, audio mixing or mixdown is the process by which multiple recorded sounds are combined into one or more channels, for instance 2-channel stereo. In the process, the source signals' level, frequency content, dynamics, and panoramic position are manipulated and effects such as reverb may be added.
This practical, aesthetic, or otherwise creative treatment is done in order to produce a mix that is more appealing to listeners.
Audio mixing is done in studios as part of creating an album or single. The mixing stage often follows a multitrack recording. The process is generally carried out by a mixing engineer, though sometimes it is the musical producer, or even the artist, who mixes the recorded material. After mixing, a mastering engineer prepares the final product for reproduction on a CD, for radio, or otherwise.
Prior to the emergence of digital audio workstations (DAWs), the process of mixing used to be carried out on a mixing console. Currently, more and more engineers and independent artists are using a personal computer for the process. Mixing consoles still play a large part in the recording process. They are often used in conjunction with a DAW, although the DAW may only be used as a multitrack recorder and for editing or sequencing, with the actual mixing being performed on the console.
I know i am boring some of you with this Sound Engineering Language, i would stop now......lol
Whats Production Kits/Software do you use?
I Use Logic, CU-Base, Nuendo,Sonar ,M-Audio Sound Card in general the latest Pro Tools
iPn: What keeps you motivated in the studio and How do you deal with not having a good and proper mix?
Music motivates me, Good Beats and delivery of the Artist motivates me. And also i listen to song over and over again.
iPn: What's your advice for future younger upcoming sound engineer?
Well my advice is , they should learn what is called Keys in Music, you know the basics in music ''Do,Re,Me,Fa,So,la,Ti,Do''. listen to good music, be very comparative, have a good listening ears,You should be able to differentiate each tones in relevance to there samples, update your software and always back up your work every now and then. Infact always back up your work every 30mins, you know how Naija is with the PHCN Situation , so you don't end up loosing important files , Finally and most importantly ''Believe in yourself''
