Officials say a boat carrying an estimated ton of marijuana turned up on a Southern California beach this morning.
NBC Los Angeles reports that a 30-foot Panga boat was spotted near Leo Carrillo State Park—roughly 10 miles west of Malibu—around 8 a.m. The official weight of the load was not confirmed, but authorities investigating the discovery guessed that it weighed a ton—possibly more.
According to NBC Los Angels, one person was detained at the scene, and that U.S. Coast Guard searched the water, but did not locate anyone.
