The lights came on and the sun was down on us , a very beautiful day, slowly, little by little trickling in one by one to what is now set to be the birth of historic revolution in how you see diversity in London. Men and women of high class, people with taste, personalities, women of worth , young and old Black , White or any race you could ever identify all left whatever they were doing to find themselves in the luxurious halls of Hilton Hotel Tower Bridge London . The rooms were cosy, the lights bright, the entire scene friendly and ready for a day of inspiration, motivation, shopping, fashion and beauty. As women of worth gather to say No to domestic violence and any form of violence on women. This is the time to change our story says Faustina Anyanwu the founder and organiser.
The event started at 10 am in a surreal, calm and epic way with luxury brands displaying their various beautiful products ranging from beauty, fashion, books, accessories and what have you. Attendees were treated to testing our various products and cupcakes from Mercy’s treat. The day continued in such a powerful way as people continued to arrive again and again filling out the entire space all smiling and happy to be in such a tasteful environment packed with nothing but like minded people. It was not all as perfect though, being the maiden edition, a few things didn’t quite go as planned, but we managed to contain with each challenge that came with it. As much as the turn out was great, we still did not have the entire expected turn out given the number of people who registered for free shopping experience and most of our VIPs turned up late too.
However, the event kick started with a bang as soon as Faustina took to the stage to give her speech, one of the most moving , honest and emotional speeches I’ve had o listen to. Not the most eloquent, but was true to its words, inspirational pointing at the core of the essence of Divas of colour. For 20 mins, every single individual kept focused and listen to her relay her story, her vision her motivation for initiating Divas of colour. Before she ended her power packed speech, almost every one in the room could connect in one way or the other to the story of divas of colour. There and then we all became one people with one purpose being to end domestic violence for good as we celebrate, reward and discover the best of women of colour .
In attendance are over 20 members of the media including bloggers, photographers, TV and magazine editors . 20 exhibitors, 12 models, 3 designers 4 panel of judges , royal appearances, dignitaries, personalities and people of integrity. In total over 150 solid individuals sat in the More London hall of Hilton Hotel tower bridge from 10 am till the end at 7pm unbelievably not itching to go as they are struck with one surprise after another, one inspirational speaker after another as we put to shame domestic violence. Before we could know it, people began to open up to tell of their experiences with domestic violence , people asked questions to which Jenni Steele the keynote speaker did justice to answering every single question. Do we go on praising our own event? Not at all. Divas of colour is an event that has stood out for itself , the testimonies pouring in from every single corner .
The designers, the exhibitors , the attendees and every participant are just so satisfied and can’t wait for the next instalment. A different standard by miles to whatever event or ceremony you think you know. What makes divas of colour different is that it brought every one together as everyone had some little piece of story to share or connect with. The best is here and we can only make it the best all the time. Bring it on! look out for the next fashion show and pageant review coming up next!
What can we say but thank you all who made it to this years edition. 2015 is already being prepared for.
God bless you all.
