2010 was a busy year for singer/songwriter, actress and producer, TENIN Baba Ndanani. In less than one year since officially launching her professional career, she has gone from virtual obscurity to being quoted on www.ASCAP.com, fielding an offer for a major publishing deal and landing the lead role in the upcoming feature Box Office film “TUCHT”. In August 2010 TENIN garnered more attention than Justin Bieber on international news site www.prlog.com for the highly-publicized making of her music video, “Head, Shoulders, Knees, Toes”.Born in Harlem, NY to a gospel-singing mother and Nigerian father, and raised in Plainfield, NJ -home of Parliament Funkadelic- Tenin is a rising star of her generation. As a child, she sang in the church choir, made her acting debut in a regional children’s theatre production, and as a young collegian wrote her first song with super-producer/friend, Matthew Irby of Phantom Boyz/Warner Music Group. Tenin continued to hone her songwriting and vocal arranging skills, eventually penning lyrics for Danity Kane and Cheri Dennis.
Currently completing production of her highly-anticipated CD slated for a Fall 2011 release, Tenin is forging her own course, fusing a background in musical theater with her soulful Gospel roots and hip hop flow for a sound all her own. Of the CD, Tenin says, “I am so excited for everyone to hear my new music. The upcoming CD is R&B-soul-pop with a hip-hop flair. It’s so me…fun, intimate and sincere!” Her authenticity is converting droves of listeners into sold-out fans across North America, the UK and Central Africa.
Despite her full performance and acting schedule, Tenin makes time to tour schools speaking to students about self-respect, purpose and personal empowerment.
