Award-winning Nigerian singer/songwriter/activist Nneka returns in September with her 3rd album, “Soul Is Heavy“ (2010′s “Concrete Jungle“ was more a compilation from 2005′s “Victim Of Truth“ and 2008′s “No Longer At Ease“).

Once again co-written and produced with DJ Farhot, we can expect more of Nneka‘s politically and positively charged messages sang in a unique genre mix of hip-hop, soul, reggae, brass and afro sounds. The album will feature guest appearances from Ms Dynamite (“Sleep“) and The Roots’ Black Thought (“God Knows Why“). Nowadays it seems that music with a meaning is a rarity…

“Soul Is Heavy“, her first single is a heartfelt song which is so genuine in its delivery; you can feel exactly what this artist is experiencing. Peep the title video from Nneka‘s upcoming LP release.

The brightly-colored visuals grab your attention as Nneka sings/chants emotionally about Nigeria and name checks some of its important socio-political figures including Jaja of Opobo and Isaac Boro.
